REGENERAR project highlights innovative advances at Nanotechnology in Medicine IV Conference
Research on CRISPR-Cas9 and Brain Gene Editing Presented by Dr. Lino Ferreira
Date: may 16
In May 2024, Dr. Lino Ferreira, coordinator of the REGENERAR project at the University of Coimbra, participated in the Nanotechnology in Medicine IV: Physical Triggers and Advanced Materials for Translation conference held in Tomar, Portugal, from May 12-16. The conference, organized by Engineering Conferences International, serves as a prominent platform for exploring cutting-edge issues in nanotechnology and advanced materials.
During the ADVANCED DRUG DELIVERY session, Dr. Ferreira presented the REGENERAR project’s groundbreaking work on “Near-Infrared Light-Activated Formulation for the Spatially Controlled Release of CRISPR-Cas9 Ribonucleoprotein for Brain Gene Editing.” This lecture showcased REGENERAR’s innovative approach to utilizing nanotechnology for precise brain gene editing, drawing significant attention to its potential to revolutionize treatment methods for stroke and neurodegenerative diseases.
The REGENERAR project, funded by Horizon Europe, focuses on developing a non-viral formulation designed to reprogram specific brain cells into functional neurons. This research aims to overcome therapeutic limitations and offer new solutions for neurodegenerative medicine.
