REGENERAR Engages Future Scientists in Brain Repair and Neurological Disorders

High School Students in Lousã Get a Glimpse into Cutting-Edge Gene Editing and Regenerative Medicine

Date: april 24

As part of its mission to advance public understanding and engagement in groundbreaking scientific research, the Horizon Europe-funded REGENERAR project recently reached out to young minds at Escola Secundária da Lousã. On April 24, 2024, Inês Tomé Ribeiro, a collaborator on the REGENERAR project, participated in a job fair at the school, where she introduced high school students to the world of advanced therapies and the exciting work being done under the REGENERAR initiative.

The event, which involved 40 students from grades 10 to 12, was structured around a series of short, rotating talks that gave students a comprehensive overview of various career paths and research areas. In her session, Ribeiro provided a brief introduction to her academic journey and the cutting-edge research being conducted by the Advanced Therapies Lab. She highlighted the REGENERAR project, which is focused on developing non-viral gene editing technologies to promote brain repair and treat neurological disorders—a field that holds immense potential for transforming patient outcomes in cases of brain injury.

In addition to REGENERAR, Ribeiro also discussed other notable projects, including NETDIAMOND, Senolive, and RESET Bone Ageing, showcasing the breadth of research aimed at addressing some of the most pressing health challenges of our time.

The event was well-received, with both students and teachers expressing enthusiasm and interest in the topics covered. The positive feedback highlights the importance of such initiatives in sparking curiosity and inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators.

By engaging with students and the broader community, REGENERAR not only advances its scientific goals but also fosters a deeper understanding of the critical need for new therapies in neurological health. The project remains committed to involving key stakeholders, including educational institutions, in its efforts to drive innovation and improve lives.
